Debra J. Cohen is of counsel to the firm and has been practicing law since 1991, with a focus on complex bankruptcy, corporate restructuring and insolvency matters. She represents trustees and plan administrators, debtors, creditors, creditors’ committees, lenders and other secured creditors, and purchasers of assets in bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court restructurings, as well in private transactions. Her areas of practice include bankruptcy reorganization or liquidation, workouts, wind-downs, debt restructuring, insolvency, bankruptcy litigation, commercial and secured transactions. Ms. Cohen’s expertise includes strategic planning, business restructuring, structuring transactions involving bankruptcy issues, and risk assessment. In addition, Ms. Cohen regularly represents corporate clients in major chapter 11 cases on matters such as contract disputes, negotiation and documentation of agreements, claims objections and resolutions, and preference and fraudulent transfer defense.
Ms. Cohen has represented sophisticated corporate and individual clients in a wide range of industries, including technology, healthcare, automotive, entertainment, energy, textile, manufacturing, construction, insurance and real estate. She is well known for understanding her client’s business objectives and for her steadfast, efficient and practical approach to resolving complex issues among diverse parties in complicated transactions to accomplish such objectives.
Ms. Cohen is admitted to the bars of New York and New Jersey, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
