Who we are
Halperin Battaglia Benzija, LLP is a dynamic firm dedicated to providing its clients with quality legal services at highly competitive rates. The firm’s primary practice area is bankruptcy, including out-of-court restructurings, chapter 11 reorganization and liquidation cases, debtor-creditor litigation and transactional advice. The firm also practices in the related areas of commercial litigation including insurance litigation, foreclosures, contracts, general corporate law and corporate services.
Alan D. Halperin, the founding and senior partner of the firm, received his training as part of the bankruptcy and restructuring department at the firm of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan. In starting his own firm, Mr. Halperin was determined to create a bankruptcy boutique with the experience and skill to rival the departments of the nation’s leading large firms, but with a level of efficiency and cost-effectiveness that large firms can seldom offer.
Halperin Battaglia Benzija, LLP achieves that combined goal. The firm has represented corporate and individual clients in their capacities as debtors, creditors, lenders, lessors, asset purchasers and avoidance action defendants, and has served as counsel to creditors’ committees in cases spanning various industries – energy, healthcare, retail, clothing manufacturing, transportation, and internet retail. Halperin Battaglia Benzija, LLP has also represented corporate debtors in both conventional and “prepackaged” bankruptcies, and has aggressively asserted and protected the rights of those clients in all facets of bankruptcy and restructuring matters. Halperin Battaglia Benzija, LLP has represented clients in connection with claims and cases ranging in value from relatively small amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars.
Halperin Battaglia Benzija, LLP has a dedicated team of eleven attorneys. Lending depth and support to the firm’s core bankruptcy practice are three lawyers with significant commercial litigation and corporate services expertise. The collective experience of the attorneys affiliated with Halperin Battaglia Benzija, LLP gives the firm the depth and breadth to effectively represent clients in any and all pre-bankruptcy, bankruptcy and general commercial situations.
Christopher J. Battaglia, who became a partner in 2003, has practiced in Boston and New York, and has a broad diversity of bankruptcy experience. Walter Benzija, who became a partner in 2008, was previously a partner with Stevens & Lee, PC and has been practicing bankruptcy law since 1995.
