Debra Cohen
has been practicing law since 1991, with a focus on complex bankruptcy,
financial restructuring and insolvency matters. She represents
debtors-in-possession, individual creditors, creditors' committees,
lenders and other secured creditors, equipment lessors, and purchasers
of assets in bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court restructurings, as
well in private transactions. Her areas of practice include
bankruptcy reorganization, workouts, debt restructuring, insolvency,
bankruptcy litigation, and secured transactions. Ms. Cohen’s
expertise includes strategic planning, business structuring,
structuring transactions involving bankruptcy issues, and risk
assessment. In addition, Ms. Cohen regularly represents corporate
clients in major chapter 11 cases on matters such as contract disputes,
negotiation and documentation of agreements, reclamation issues, claims
objections, and preference defense.
Ms. Cohen has represented sophisticated corporate and individual
clients in a wide range of industries, including technology,
healthcare, automotive, entertainment, energy, textile, manufacturing,
construction, insurance and real estate. She is well known for
understanding her client's business objectives and for her steadfast,
efficient and practical approach to resolving complex issues among
diverse parties in complicated transactions to accomplish such
objectives.
Ms. Cohen is admitted to the bars of New York and New Jersey, the U.S.
District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and
the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and the Second
Circuit Court of Appeals. She graduated from the Benjamin N. Cardozo
School of Law (J.D., 1991), where she was a Symposium Editor of the
Arts & Entertainment Law Journal. She is a graduate of Brooklyn
College of the City University of New York, where she graduated magna
cum laude (B.S.1988), and where she was granted an award for
Outstanding Scholastic Achievement in Accounting, Law, Finance and
Taxation. Ms. Cohen also participated in the Bankruptcy Litigation
Program of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy in San Diego,
California in 1994. She is a member of the American Bar Association.
